Report of the third student journal club
The Journal Club meeting was held in English on December 2, 2024.
The article discussed the antidepressant and anxiolytic effects of psilocybin, the active compound in Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, using a mouse model. The session began with an explanation of acute toxicity and EEG experiments, followed by behavioral tests conducted on mice, including the Rota rod, FST, Open Field Test, and Elevated Plus Maze.
The results indicated that psilocybin exhibits favorable antidepressant and anxiolytic effects compared to reference drugs. However, due to ethical concerns and potential abuse, further studies are required for purification, derivatization, and safe direct pharmaceutical use of the compound.
At the end of the session, the article was discussed and critiqued by participants and faculty members.
